National Honor Society is a prestigious service organization that recognizes the highest achieving students throughout the nation.  At Custer County High School, we focus on at least three service projects a year – one local, one national, and one worldwide.  Some of these projects have included book drives, shoe drives, quilt making for war-torn populations, Operation Christmas Child, knit hats for cancer victims, and elementary school science night. 

National Honor Society Requirements: 

Scholarship – after 3 high school semesters, students with a 3.5 unweighted GPA are invited to apply.  They may be invited during their sophomore, junior, and senior years.

Service – students must be able to verify significant community service.  This usually involves a year or two of sustained involvement with a community or school organization.

Leadership – students must demonstrate leadership in the community and/or in the school.  This must go beyond participation but may include team captain, student body or class officers, FFA officer, church responsibilities, etc.

Character – students demonstrate character by work experience, sustained participation in community and school groups, and awards.

Applications are evaluated by a faculty committee according to the by-laws of the national organization.
